Ana Carolina Rodrigues (b. 1985, Portugal) lives and works in the UK.
Rodrigues is a multimedia artist whose sculptures, drawings, videos and installations are informed by ecology, poetry and contemporary philosophy. Her practice often engages with loss and absence, exploring ways of thinking beyond human-centred perspectives and towards more ecological relationships with the non-human world.
Recent works focus on a landscape that has belonged to Rodrigues’s family for generations and has changed profoundly over the past few decades. Through drawing, sculpture and moving image, she traces these transformations, depicting trees burnt by fire, a stream that has ceased to run, dried flowers and weeds. These works consider the traces of environmental change and the fragile relationship between memory, place and the more-than-human world.
Rodrigues was awarded an Arts Grant by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for a project addressing issues including pollution, deforestation and climate change. The project included a funded research residency in the Panamanian rainforest with La Wayaka Current, a solo exhibition at Maxilla Space in London, and a series of radio broadcasts with Resonance Extra.
She is a recipient of the UAL | Clifford Chance Sculpture Award.
Rodrigues is a founding member of Project Space Maxilla in London. Since 2017, she has collaborated with ACAVA, organising exhibitions and workshops. She is an Associate Lecturer at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London and a drawing tutor at the Royal West of England Academy.
